Our mission is to make Disciples for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, through Preaching, Teaching, Praying and Singing as we sacrifice our Time, Talent and Treasure. We are an active, community and service oriented church situated in East Columbus, growing our ministries and outreach through serving.

 

History

1950-1974

New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church was first founded under the name of “Galilee Baptist Church” in 1950 under the pastorate of the late William Thomas Stevenson.  From inception worship services were held in the home of Pastor Stevenson at 224 S. Highland Avenue.  Other worship locations were the Old Baptist Headquarters building, a store front building at Mound and Grant Avenue and its final church location constructed by the men of the church at 806 Taylor Avenue were, Forty-Five faithful charter members continue to serve under his pastorate until his retirement in 1974.

 

1975-2003

In 1975, following the retirement of Pastor Stevenson, Pastor H. Jay Scott was called as the pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and on  Easter Sunday in 1979, Pastor Scott and a motorcade of the members of Galilee traveled from 806 Taylor Avenue to the newly built and current church location at 2121 Joyce Avenue. Pastor Scott entered into retirement in 2003 and Pastor Marcus L. Martin was called as the pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.

 

2003-Present

Three years following his call, Pastor Marcus L. Martin responded to God’s vision to build a new church edifice.  Upon completion of the church, on July 6, 2008 Galilee Missionary Baptist became officially known as “New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist.” – Rev. 21:2-3.   The newly constructed sanctuary was attached to the old existing sanctuary in 2006, at 2121 Joyce Avenue.  The former existing sanctuary currently house the Unitee Day Care Center and the lower level space is used for classrooms, dining, banquet facility and many other multi-purpose usage.
